Lupron (Leuprolide Acetate)
The administration of Lupron affects the pituitary gland and results in lower luteinizing
and follicle stimulation hormones in the body.
Follicle Stimulating Hormones (FSH or Gonadotropins)
Gonadotropins are given to increase the production of ovarian follicles or eggs as they are commonly referred. The more eggs produced, the better chance the intended mother has of achieving a pregnancy. There are some possible side effects to FSH medications. The most serious is OHSS or ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome. This is when the body responds to well to the medication and the ovaries become enlarged. The physician will take great care to prevent this from happening, however is it does, hospitalization may be necessary.
Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG )
(One injection)
hCG is produced by the human placenta. The purpose of administering hCG
is to ready the ovaries for the egg retrieval.
